Our GracePlace ~ DCC Shepherds
Gene Adams
My family moved here from McKinney in 1971. My parents, Ann and Odie Adams, were members here for 30 years. They now reside in Hawkins, TX. I married Kim (Dunlap) in 1982. Her family has attended here for over 50 years. We have a daughter, Candace, who is a supervisor in Medical Records at Methodist Central Hospital. I have four sisters: Barbara Truesdale, Brenda Dill, Wanda Adams, and Becky Kirby. I am blessed to have several family members that attend here. Among them are my sister Wanda Adams, my mother-in-law, Ruth Dunlap, my brothers- and sisters-in-law Tim & Amelia Dunlap and George & Connie Chappell, and my niece Amy Chappell.
I am employed as an electrician, and my wife is a retired school teacher. She taught special education for 28 years.
I have been a deacon in the past. I have been on many mission trips, and now serve as Communion Coordinator, Life Group co-teacher, and co-teacher for the Sixth Grade.
I am privileged to be serving as an elder here that has been my home for all these years.

Rick Cotton
Becky and I married in 1973. We have been blessed with 2 sons, Ryan and Randy. Ryan married Terra Derrico in 2000, and they live in Corinth, Texas. They have blessed us with 2 grandchildren, Gavin & Teyah. Randy married Jamie Honeycutt in 2002, and they live in Midlothian, Texas. We feel fortunate to have our children close by.
My mother Helen Cotton is a member here. Becky's parents Maurice & Lois Neathery have also rejoined us to work and worship with the church here at Duncanville where he previously served as one of the ministers. Maurice has retired (but not stopped working) after 50 years of preaching for our Lord's Church.
Becky and I came to the Duncanville congregation in 1976. We have raised our children here, laid to rest my dad and our grandparents while here; we've become "empty nesters" and have experienced a closer walk with God while serving in different ministries. As you can tell, we think the church here in Duncanville is special, people that truly love the Lord. It is our home.
Becky and I have a passion for working with marriages. We learned through our own experiences that getting through the tough times will strengthen you and allow you to finish strong if you keep God at the center. We are facilitators for Family Dynamics with the Dynamic Marriage (His Needs Her Needs). We have seen this program strengthen and improve your relationship wherever it is as long as you allow Christ to be the center.
We love this church and I count it an honor to serve you and our Lord as a shepherd for this congregation.

I was born in Dallas Texas. I have worked in construction materials since graduation and presently with Lehigh Hanson as VP Sales for North Texas.
I married Bridget Amyx (high school sweetheart from DeSoto shortly after graduating). We have two children; son Clint born in 1981 and daughter Cara born in 1985. Clint is attending his final year of chiropractic school and is married to Shauna McClure Dacus who is a physical therapist. They live in Pasedena Texas. Cara has a degree in fashion design and is working in retail sales in Dallas. Bridget and I have raised our children attending Duncanville Church of Christ while serving in various capacities as deacon and with the youth committees as well as teaching classes at various levels.
I find it an honor to serve this body of believers in Christ for the sake of our Lord. This church is my home and family. May God bless our service to him.

Grover Davis
I grew up in Oak Cliff attending Saner Avenue Church of Christ where my father was a deacon and elder. I served as a deaon and treasurer of the congregation until we moved to South MacArthur Church of Christ in Irving to become involved with the deaf congregation and to learn sign language for our daughter. We moved in 1983 to the church in Duncanville and started our Signing for the Deaf Ministry.
My wife Lynn and I were married in 1967 and have a son Jeff, and a daughter Jennifer. Between their families, we have a grandson and 4 granddaughters that we enjoy spoiling. We are thankful that they are all close to us.
Lynn enjoys coordinating weddings, and I get to keep up the grounds of our new wedding facility. I retired from Vought Aircraft in 2006 and have done consulting work for various defense companies all over the country on a part-time basis.
I enjoy working with the other shepherds and count it an honor to serve in the Lord's work here at the GracePlace.

Joe Gentry
Diann and I live in DeSoto, TX and have been married since 1978. We have 2 children, Sarah & Philip. Sarah lives in St. Louis, MO and works in the field of Education. Philip is a professional baseball player in the Minor League organization of the Cincinnati Reds. Diann is a librarian at Moates Elementary in DeSoto and enjoys reading, baking, and travelling. I work in Procurement at SBC and enjoy reading, automobiles, and sports.
Diann is the youngest of four and her father served as an elder for many years at the church in Fayetteville, AR. I am the third of 6 boys, and my father has preached in the Little Rock, AR area since the early 1960's.
During the early years of our marriage, I preached full-time and served in the Army Reserve while working at SBC. Diann guided our home, raised 2 small children, and held us together. In 1984 at the break up of AT&T, my job took us to St. Louis, MO. While in St. Louis I served as a deacon and later as elder of the McKnight Road Church. In 1997 my job at SBC was tranferred to San Antonio, TX and a year later to Dallas, TX.
We believe God led us to Duncanville, and we count it as one of His special blessings for molding and shaping us as we travel along our faith journey. For most of my life, my favorite book of the Bible has been Proverbs, but I'm learning to really appreciate the Revelation letter.
We both love serving together with you, and we rejoice at God's amazing grace and work of the Spirit among us. I look forward to worshipping together with you this Sunday!

Tim Haynes
Teresa and I have been married since October of 1973. We have two beautiful daughters. Marisa lives in Arlington and Cailin lives in Denton.
We have lived in several states and served in Argentina as missionaries from 1978-1983. We came to Texas from Missouri in 1996.
We believe the Lord led us to the Duncanville church, and we gladly call it home. In fact, when we came to Texas, we chose Duncanville as our city because of the Duncanville church of Christ. We are excited to share in the mission of this church—to glorify the Lord through sharing the love of Christ with any and all. Over the years we have enjoyed teaching Bible classes and working with youth ministry, small groups, and especially foreign and local missions. I particularly enjoy working with our active Hispanic ministry.
The Duncanville church is a family in the truest sense of the word. I would love to welcome you personally into our family. I look forward to meeting you when you visit our assembly!
Gary Rinehart
Hello! I'm Gary Rinehart, and I have the pleasure of serving as one of the elders of this church.
My wife Cheryl and our family became members of this church in 1989 after a job transfer from the Houston area. We were all immediately put at ease by the friendly atmosphere and honest interest in us. Thankfully, you will be able to experience the same as this church continues to excel in these areas.
Our children Amber and Tyson spent most of their childhood and adolescent years being nourished and nurtured by this church, and still have fond memories of their time here.
My aim as one of your elders is to challenge, assist, and care for you. Let me know how I may best serve you in your walk with the Lord Jesus.

Jimmy Sigmund
I was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1950 and in 1958 moved to Enid, Oklahoma (where in 1963 I was baptized). My family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1963. Martha and I were members of the same congregation in Lake Charles and we both attended Harding College (now Harding University) in Searcy, Arkansas. In 1972, we graduated (me with a degree in History and Martha with a degree in Home Economics) and were married in August of that year. We have one son, Bob, who attended Abilene Christian University and is a computer programmer. He and his wife Carrie are members of the Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas and live in McKinney.
We have lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sherman, Texas and moved to Cedar Hill, Texas in October 1986. We have been members of the Duncanville Church of Christ since we moved to Cedar Hill. I have served as a deacon since 1987. Martha is the ministry leader for the Teachers Resource Room. I have been involved in teaching adult Bible classes since becoming a member at Duncanville.
Martha and I are both employed by the Federal Government. She works for the Taxpayer Advocate Service (IRS) and I work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Tim Sullivan
Our family has worshipped at the Duncanville Church of Christ since 1984 when we moved here from Temple, Texas, after I completed a residency in pathology.
Cindy and I have been married since 1972, and we have two daughters: Kelley and Kacey. Kelley graduated from Abilene Christian University in August 2000 and married Brian Beck, our Minister of Music. Kacey graduated from Abilene Christian University in 2004, and is now in law school at Texas Tech.
We have enjoyed working and serving with this great church family and I have had the honor and pleasure of serving as an elder.

Harvey Widner
I was born of Christian parents and raised on a farm in eastern New Mexico. I married my childhood sweetheart, Violet Lay, in 1958. We both graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1961; I with a degree in Mathematics and Violet with a degree in Home Economics. We have 3 sons, Mike, Jeff, and Todd, all of whom are married. We have 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
We lived for a time in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where I worked at the White Sands Missile Range and did some part-time preaching and teaching in the adult and teenage Bible classes. I also served as a deacon for a number of years. Violet taught for a while at the Visually Handicapped School and in the Pre-school Department at church. In our spare time, we established the first pistachio orchard in the state of New Mexico.
We lived in Camarillo, California for 2 years where I served as an elder prior to moving to Duncanville. I am presently retired from Lockheed Martin where I worked as a Missile Test Engineer (tongue in cheek Rocket Scientist).
We have lived in Duncanville since August 1976, and have attended the Lord's church all that time. Violet and I have been active in the Singles Ministry in years past, and Violet has been a co-teacher for the Ladies Bible class. I have been involved in teaching the Adult Discussion class since 1992 and have served as an elder since April 2002.

John Wood
I consider serving as a shepherd at The Grace Place in Duncanville an honor as well as a Biblically defined responsibility. God is quite clear about the fate of shepherds who do not effectively care for the flock.
My wife Suzanne and I have been married since 1981, and have three children. Our youngest, Kelsey, is now in heaven and probably greeting and providing orientation for the new arrivals! My other two children are now grown and both are living in the Dallas area. Over the years, we have received great blessings from all three of our children.
Suzanne and I spent the first two years of our marriage in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I worked at Target store headquarters and Suzanne worked as an administrator for a job placement firm. We were members of the Richfield Church of Christ coordinating the youth ministry there. We moved back home to Texas in 1983 and settled in DeSoto becoming members at the Trinity Oaks Church of Christ where I served as a deacon, and later as an elder at the Rolling Hills Church of Christ. In February of 1994, while returning to Baton Rouge from a business trip to San Antonio, our American Eagle plane lost both engines and went down in a sugar cane field. Four months later, I left the world of business for the world of education. I have served students as a teacher, high school principal, headmaster, and program director at the Regional Service Center in Austin.
I am truly blessed to be a servant and shepherd at the Grace Place in Duncanville!
